Look Who Is On Broadway
July 13, 2006
Look Solutions has taken Broadway by storm the last few seasons with vendors like PRG, Hudson Scenic/Lighting, and Jauchem & Meeh making Look’s fog and haze machines their equipment of choice for a wide array of musicals, including Disney’s new “Tarzan,” “Hot Feet,” “The Drowsy Chaperone,” and “Lord of the Rings” which is making its way to Broadway via Toronto.
PRG has selected Look Solutions gear for both Broadway musicals and their touring companies. “We have Tiny-Foggers on ‘Tarzan,’ ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ and the Tony-nominated ‘The Wedding Singer;’ on the New York, Chicago and national productions of ‘Wicked;’ on the Broadway run and national tour of ‘Spamalot;’ and on the national tour of ‘Movin’ Out,’ which is based on Billy Joel’s songs and music,” says Darren DeVerna, PRG Senior Vice President. Tiny-Foggers also figure in the national tour of “Hairspray.”
The palm-sized Tiny-Fogger can easily be built into backdrops, costumes and props. A battery-operated, remote-controlled unit, it features a programmable microprocessor to control fog emission.
“We have Viper NT foggers on ‘Tarzan’ and ‘Hot Feet’ and on the national tour of ‘Riverdance,’” Deverna adds. A powerful fog generator, the Viper NT features simple handling, DMX control and fine adjustment of its output.
PRG also deployed Look Solutions’ Orka fogger, the most powerful fogger available on the market today, for “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” which has finished its Broadway run. Orka generates a high quantity of fog in a short period of time in a compact, robust unit.
Additionally, PRG has provided Unique hazers, Look’s popular water-based haze machines, to “The Lion King” and the revival of “The Pajama Game” and to the National tour of “Bombay Dreams,” Deverna reports.
Viper and Orka foggers are currently in use on the pre-Broadway engagement of “Lord of the Rings” in Toronto. “They’re really the best units for fogging the air,” says Greg Meeh of Jauchem & Meeh. “We’ve used Vipers and Orkas on a lot of shows, and they are really the best units for getting fog in the air the way we need to.”
Hudson Scenic Studio/Hudson Sound and Light tapped six compact but powerful 220v Viper NT foggers for “The Woman in White” which concluded its Broadway run in February. Teamed with variable speed inline blowers they generated dense fog and mist out of the fog grates, recalls Hudson Scenic Electrical Foreman, Dave Rosenfeld. “They were great. The units can put out a high volume adjustable via DMX so they gave us the flexibility we needed to produce both dense fog and mist.”
Look Solutions’ foggers and hazers are also used in the Broadway production of “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” and the long-running hit, “The Producers.”

Unique Review
For the last two years I've used many of the leading brands of haze and smoke products. When it came time to purchase something for my own business, I wanted to know if there might be a better product on the market to suit my needs.
Introductory Guide
Fog and haze differ in that fog is a thick, opaque effect that lasts a short time, while haze is a thin, translucent effect that lasts a long time. Fog is used as a special effect, whereas haze is used for lighting or atmosphere enhancement.
